In a desperate attempt to boost their win percentage in special elections, Chris Ager, the Chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party, has endorsed the Democrat candidate in the upcoming State Rep special election in Nashua. However, this move has sparked criticism from some Republicans who see it as a sign of weakness.
Ross Berry, former NHGOP executive director, expressed skepticism about Ager’s endorsement, saying “This kind of tactic is short-sighted and doesn’t address the underlying problems the NHGOP is facing. We need to focus on developing a strong platform and message that resonates with voters if we want to win elections, not just try to artificially inflate our win percentage.”
David M. Narkunas, the Republican candidate in the special election, also expressed reservations about Ager’s endorsement. “I think it’s important for candidates to stand on their own merits and not rely on last-minute endorsements to win elections. I want to earn the trust and support of voters through my ideas and my track record, not just because of a party label, which apparently has betrayed me.”
Meanwhile, Ray Buckley, the Chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, couldn’t resist taking a jab at the NHGOP. “It’s amusing to see the NHGOP resorting to these kinds of desperate tactics in an attempt to win elections. Maybe if they spent more time developing a coherent platform and less time trying to game the system, they would actually be competitive in special elections.”
It remains to be seen whether Ager’s endorsement will have any significant impact on the outcome of the special election. What is clear, however, is that the NHGOP is struggling to gain traction in a state that is increasingly turning blue. Until they can present a compelling vision for the future that resonates with voters, they will continue to struggle in special elections and beyond.
