A group of New Hampshire Republicans gathered outside the New Hampshire Republican Party (NHGOP) headquarters to protest after falling for a satirical article that claimed NHGOP Chair Chris Ager had endorsed a Democrat in a special election.
According to sources at the scene, the protesters were waving American flags and carrying signs that read “Resign Now!” and “No More Jennifer Horn!” When asked about their motivation for protesting, one individual stated, “This unconscionable action violates everything we stand for. Hey Ho, J-HO must Go!”
Picketers were not deterred when reminded that Jennifer Horn was no longer chair.
It seems that the protesters were misled by a satirical article that was circulating on social media. The article, published on April 1, claimed that Republican party chair Chris Ager had endorsed the Democrat in a special election to boost the NHGOP’s win percentage.
Despite the obvious absurdity of the article, some Republicans apparently took it at face value and began spreading it around on social media. Soon enough, a group of protesters had gathered outside the NHGOP headquarters, demanding that the Chair resign.
In response to the protest, the NHGOP issued a statement urging its members to fact-check before sharing articles on social media. “We understand that emotions are running high, but it’s important to verify the accuracy of information before sharing it with others,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the satirical article’s author, who wishes to remain anonymous, couldn’t believe that anyone took the article seriously. “I mean, come on, it was obviously a joke,” the author said. “I guess some people just can’t take a joke.”
As the protesters dispersed, it was clear that this was yet another case of satire gone wrong. Let’s hope that in the future, people will take a moment to think before jumping to conclusions and taking to the streets.
